Lila Cante Postcard

In the interest of conservation, At Hand has decided not to print postcards for LILA CANTE, and instead will only use a digital postcard to promote the show. We are intent on making responsible choices for the environment – and even the decision to not print 500-1000 postcards can make a difference. (It can be very difficult to make a statement as a green company when the real difference between you and the others is what you are NOT doing!)

Volunteer for the New Island Festival

The New Island Festival (newislandfestival.com) has asked At Hand Theatre to help them find motivated, organized, smart, and energetic volunteers for a two-weekend arts festival on Governor’s Island (September 10-20) packed with the best of Holland: provocative theatre, stunning site-specific performance, dazzling visual arts, and exhilarating DJ sets, performed by more than 150 world-class Dutch artists. All volunteers are invited to attend the festival performances and activities for free! Read more…

Set-up/Dress Rehearsals: Tuesday, September 8 – Wednesday, September 9
Festival Weekend #1: Thursday, September 10 – Sunday, September 13
Festival Weekend #2: Thursday, September 17 – Sunday, September 20

No matter your level of availability, there is a volunteer job to fit your talents!  Responsibilities include: box office staff support, artist relations, information services, audience relations, ushering… The ideal volunteer will be a motivated self-starter with a love of the arts who has an upbeat personality and can think on their feet. Volunteer shifts will run 4-6 hours in length and they would love to have you help out as many days as you can.

Click here for the link to the volunteer sign-up. Specific shift jobs will be assigned each morning, based on needs.  Once the scheduling is complete, Ingrid Kloss, the Volunteer Coordinator, will contact each of the volunteers to confirm their scheduled shifts. (They are sharing a volunteer form with the folks who are managing the archaeological dig site, although I am sure they would be thrilled for volunteers, if you’re into digging!) If you have any questions, please email Ingrid at newislandvolunteers@gmail.com. They ask that everyone attend a volunteer training session, held next Tuesday, Sept 8th and Wednesday, Sept 9th on Governors Island, time TBD.

Join us in taking part in this exceptional, one-time only festival…  and help us represent At Hand Theatre Company! In fact, if you can think of anybody that would be interested in volunteering too, please forward this on to them!

Sidenote: I helped them setup 30 of their 200 artist tents this morning and had a blast. It’s a gorgeous location and there tons of Dutch people there, who are some of the nicest people ever. There are some really incredible shows and events happening there: a Cocteau monologue directed by the incredible Ivo Van Hove, a cow that jumps through hoops, some wild experimental outdoor theatre, famous DJs spinning every night, a crazy performance art piece where a man builds a 45 foot tower contraption and suspends himself from it, an art installation of 400 paintings flapping their wings in the wind, food served at a gigantic 400 foot wooden table, and a silent dance party where all the music is broadcast on wireless headphones! I’ll see you on Governor’s Island…
