Call for Short Play Submissions!

pop
Dear Writers and Friends of Writers!

We’re looking for short play submissions for our 2009 annual spring fundraiser, DEATH BY POP!

In May 2007, At Hand gathered twenty-four performers, six directors and twelve writers to donate their time and talent to an evening of original one-act plays, sketches, dance, songs and comedy. The result was POP!: Riffs, Rants and Ramblings on the Current State of Popular Cultural Affairs.  Now entering its third year, POP! is a fun evening of theatre focusing on new one act plays, that benefits At Hand Theatre Company.

As you may have guessed, the short new plays must have something to do with popular culture, but wait for it… there’s a twist this year!  We’re looking to mix things up a bit.  Rather than make it to easy and ask you to simply riff on pop culture, we wanted to challenge our writers a bit more this time. So we’re taking two disparate themes and seeing what you come up with. Theme number one of course is POP (i.e. popular culture, movies, tv, music, trends, fad, celebs, etc etc). Theme number two is… DEATH. (i.e. no longer alive, death, mortality, etc etc).  We ask that all submissions somehow incorporate one (if you’re good) or both (if you’re awesome) of these themes. FUN!! RIGHT?!!!

If you would like to participate, please submit your work via email by FEBRUARY 1ST to submissions@athandtheatre.com
