Narrator 1 was presented yesterday evening as part of At Hand’s Staged Reading Series. An outstanding piece, written by Erin Browne & directed by Dave Solomon, Narrator 1 is described as follows:

Meet Zara and Dan, two writers facing a somewhere near mid life crisis. These seem-to-be-perfect-for-each-other friends could come together… or will their own imaginations keep them apart? Dan and Zara try to get past their own romantic hang-ups to find each other through time and the streets of New York. Helping and hindering them along the way are their own creations – pesky narrators, teens in love, and a mysterious, haiku spouting man.

The reading featured the fantastic cast of Hannah Bos (Narrator 1), Angela Goethals (Zara), Rachel Hip-Flores (Ari), Joey LaVarco (Noah), Dillon Porter (Haiku), Russell Soder (Dan), Paul Thureen (Narrator 2), and Matt Shofner (stage directions extraordinaire), and was stage managed by Melanie T. Morgan.  Anika Chapin was the assistant director and Julie DeVore was the production assistant.  The reading was generously sponsored in part by At Hand donor Karen Jolly Davis.

At Hand was part of a private staged reading of a new cabaret musical written by At Hand Artistic Associate Anton Dudley, along with Charlie Sohne and Keith Gordon entitled THE RE-HYDRATION OF EDITH PILAF. The private reading, which took place on Sunday, October 3rd, starred Julia Murney and Bobby Steggert.

We’d like to welcome a few fabulous new people to our company – Phillip Chavira, Anton Dudley, Nick Leavens, Kimberly Rossiter, Rachel Slaven, and Jason Tyne-Zimmerman! These talented writers and directors will be an integral part of At Hand, as we continue to develop and produce new plays. As Artistic Associates, they will have a voice in the work that we choose and will get their hands dirty helping us create it!

At Hand Theatre Company is seeking submissions for new plays to be presented as part of our staged reading series or as full productions in 2011.

At Hand gives both emerging and established playwrights the chance to find their voices without having to be concerned with production values. Our directors, designers, and actors work collaboratively with playwrights on original texts – helping shape the script, discussing relevant themes, negotiating the language of the play, and focusing the storytelling. At Hand’s theatrical productions are created using environmentally conscious means, with limited materials.

SUBMISSION ELIGIBILITY
· Full-length play. At Hand does not produce or develop musicals and we are not looking for one-act plays at this time.
· Never been produced or reviewed. We only accept plays that have never received a full production, but are ready for a director, actors, and designers, but possibly still in need of the kind of development a full rehearsal process can provide.
· We are looking to work with NYC-based playwrights only.
· We are accepting scripts that call for no more than 8 actors.
· As we are a green company, we accept digital submissions only.

Scripts should be emailed in Word or pdf format to Josh Fiedler, At Hand’s Literary Manager, at josh@athandtheatre.com. Please include a short playwright bio in the body of your email.
